Midnight Madness- Puppies to the Rescue-Part 3

The puppies did not sleep through the night.  You saw that coming didn’t you.  I had thought about sleeping on the couch but decided I needed the best nights sleep I could possibly get.  It was 2:34 am when I heard the cries coming from the kitchen end of the house.

Please keep in mind that my youngest child is 24 years old so it has been a long time since I had to get up to feed anyone in the middle of the night.  But I jumped out of bed at the first little cry and by the time I got to the kitchen all seven puppies were crying.

Since the puppies arrived at the house in the dark they had not been outside.  I decided the wee hours of the morning was not an opportune time for our first time in the yard so I hoped at least of few of them would use the piddle pads.

Of course that didn’t happen.  Not one of them even ventured close to the pads so I ended up 14 messes to clean up.  About a roll of paper towels and a splash of Mr. Clean later the pups were hungry.  I had no idea who was eating how much so I just filled the bowls up again.

I had been a bit worried that Joan of Arc was not getting enough to eat.  She was the littlest of the bunch and I could easily see the other bigger puppies not letting her get enough but nothing could be farther from the truth.  She was holding her own with her larger siblings and doing a little bossing around herself.

Finally the midnight meal was over and after cleaning up a seven more puddles of pee everyone was tucked back in their crate and heading off to dreamland.  I turned out the lights and turned to leave the room when I felt myself falling.  And then I felt myself hitting the floor.

I had slipped on a wet spot on the floor and done a total face plant.  Instantly I had that metallic taste in my mouth confirming that I was in fact bleeding.  I had managed to put my front tooth completely through my upper lip as well as banging my chin, my nose, my head, my knees and my forearms.

As I lay in bed holding ice on my lip I realized it was my birthday.  What a way to start a new year.

Somehow, I’m pretty sure you’ll remember that particular birthday for a long time and will actually chersih that memory!

First, Happy Birthday (from the puppies and from me). Secondly, I’m so sorry about the teeth through the lip – did that years ago. It takes a bit to heal, but you’ll have a good story to tell! Give the kids extra loves for me, and I hope they are now using the great outdoors.

Thank you Betty for the birthday wishes. My birthday may have started out rough but it was one of the best ever. I can not believe how much that tooth through the lip hurt but it is healing well. As for the puppies, they are using the great outdoors but you will have to come back for the next installments to find out where. I am so glad you stopped by.

Oh Janet, let me assure you I am in no hurry to get to Heaven but I was feeling a little bit of it each time I held one of these puppies. I feel blessed by the opportunity to work with so many people who are all working to help these dogs have a better life. Thanks so much for your sweet words.

Hi Donna. I am doing fine. Since I don’t write my blog posts in real time my lip is practically healed and it looks like I will only have a tiny scare to remind me of my 54th birthday. You will be glad to know that I did leave a light on after that fall. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. See you around.
