There is a New Chalk Paint in Town from Home Depot

Did you know that Home Depot has partnered with DecoArt to make a matte finish chalk paint?  If you did you are you are at least a few steps ahead of me, I just found out about it yesterday.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint has taken the DIY’ers of the world by storm.   But with a quart of paint running some where about $52 including shipping many would-be painters have been priced out of the market before they bought their first can.

And that is where Home Depot comes in.  They are carrying a new line of paint by DecoArt called Americana Chalky Paint.

Check out all of these great colors.

I am leaning towards the green color “New Life” for my bedroom chair.  I like that the colors are a little stronger and you can still mix your color with white to get a softer color.

The 8 oz. sample sized jar is just $8.49 and the full sized can is 16 fl. oz. is just $15.98.  Shipping is free with a $45 purchase or you can have it delivered to the nearest store and pick it up yourself for FREE.  I love free shipping.  Rumor has it that this paint will be available in stores sometime in April.

While this paint claims to be water clean up with low VOCs just like Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, the wax appears to be very different.  According to their literature their waxes are a liquid with a consistency similar to paint and can be mixed with acrylic paint.  The wax comes in three different colors, clear, light brown and a darker brown.

Image all the different looks you could achieve with three waxes you can mix with paint.  DecoArts web site didn’t say that you can mix the waxed but I bet you can giving you endless possibilities for wax finishes.

There are also three different finishes for outdoor or high use items ranging from glossy to matte finish.

I can’t wait to try this paint out.  Most of the reviews were very positive with only a few people who didn’t care for the product.

It is wonderful that there is a less expensive alternative to ASCP.  I am ordering my samples first thing in the morning and I will do a follow-up post on my thoughts on the paint.
